Our hero Guybrush
Threepwood arrives on the
unusually quiet pirate hamlet of Melee Island to become a pirate himself.
Of course it is not that easy, if he
wants to become a pirate he must complete the three trials that the pirate leaders in the SCUMM bar, set him. It would be
great if only the locals weren't petrified of an Undead pirate captain and his ghostly
crew and if that blasted Sheriff Shinetop would just keep his nose out of Guybrush's
business he could get on with hunting treasure, sword fighting and stealing that idol. It
is only moments after Guybrush finishes his pirate training that the beautiful governor,
Elaine Marley is kidnapped by LeChuck. He sails off to his secret
hideaway deep beneath the fabled Monkey Island. Now our hero decides to sail
after his one true love to rescue her from LeChuck's undead clutches.
Unfortunately
Guybrush has to find not only a crew but also a ship, and the only place to get
a shipon
Melee is Stan's Used Ship Emporium, where the quality of ship our hero can afford is
matched only by the cheapness of Stan's attire. Once
on the Sea Monkey things do not improve with a mutinous crew more interested in a
Caribbean cruise than saving their beloved governor. It is left to Guybrush to steer the
ship on it's journey to the mysterious Monkey Island. Thanks to a voodoo spell Guybrush
and his crew are magically sailed to the shores of Monkey Island.
Once Guybrush arrives on the island he needs only to get to the ghost ship deep beneath the island. In exploring
the Island Guybrush meets the original crew of the Sea Monkey and
a group of cannibals. Who combine to help Guybrush navigate the catacombs below the Giant Monkey Head and steal
the only weapon that can destroy LeChuck once and forever, a voodoo anti-root. Guybrush
returns the root to the cannibals who provide Guybrush with the deadly elixir of ghost
death and he returns to the ghost ship's mooring place in the lava floes only to find the ship has sailed off to the
wedding of LeChuck and Elaine. It only remains for Guybrush to race back to the Melee
Island church, root beer in hand, to destroy his nemesis once and for all. He destroys
LeChuck and it is the end.
